Prevention
As the sexual violence movement continues to progress, more efforts are focused around preventing violence before it ever occurs. Using information about risk and protective factors, the public health model, and the spectrum of prevention, more programs are looking to end perpetration of sexual violence. This means that engaging men in violence prevention and having conversations about healthy relationships and sexuality are becoming more prevalent. Making prevention a priority is the goal of more and more local, state, and national organizations. Below are resources to assist with these efforts.

THE PREVENTION COORDINATOR
In an effort to address the lack of support, feeling of isolation, and confusion that prevention experts face in their work, The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) funds the Prevention Coordinator position at the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence, to provide technical assistance to their funded Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) programs. These services are not limited to ODH funded RPE programs and are available to any rape prevention program throughout Ohio.
The types of services the Prevention Coordinator can offer your program, include in person visits, review of primary prevention plans, participation in coalition work meetings, research, and referrals on library resources. You can receive this technical assistance via phone, email or in person.
You are encouraged to request technical assistance as needed. Please contact Jasmine Finnie, at 614-233-3301 or jfinnie@oaesv.org for more information or to receive technical assistance.

Featured Resource:
Use Your Strength: Mobilizing Young Men to Prevention Sexual and Dating Violence (DVD)
Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR) offers their award winning youth development programs to anyone interested in learning how young men can join with women as allies in preventing sexual and dating violence. In contrast to traditional efforts that address men as "the problem," MCSR’s pioneering work embraces them as vital allies with the will and character to make healthy choices and foster safe, equitable relationships. Through this dynamic and entertaining video, educators and youth serving professionals will visit Men of Strength Club and Men Creating Change meetings to learn how dominant stories and counter stories of masculinity can help young men play a role in constructing a world free of violence against women and girls — a world that will benefit us all. ENGAGING MEN AND BOYS
One key element in sexual violence prevention is the involvement of men in violence prevention efforts. To truly end sexual violence, our work must focus on stopping the perpetration of sexual violence instead of traditional methods that focus solely on women and girls. Below is more information along with a list of organizations that work with men, to assist with local efforts in engaging men.

RESOURCES FOR TEENS
Women between the ages of 12-24 are at the highest risk for sexual violence. Appropriately, the majority of sexual violence prevention efforts focus on educating teens about healthy relationships and sexuality, as well as consent, oppression, and media literacy. Making resources available to assist teens who may have already experienced sexual violence is also necessary. Below are resources for local agencies that are or are planning to work with teens.
