Ohio Sexual Violence Helpline:
BE THE ONE TO STOP SEXUAL VIOLENCE
Everyone plays an active role in preventing sexual violence.
BE THE ONE TO ACT. PREVENT SEXUAL VIOLENCE.
Prevention means stopping sexual violence before it begins. Preventing sexual violence is possible, and it begins with you. It happens every day to people we care about. And it’s serious. You can help stop it if you know what to look for and what to do.
Notice the Warning Signs
Recognize actions or patterns of behaviors that hint at sexual violence or other intimate partner violence.
Recognize the Problem
Ask yourself: “If I don’t act, could the situation get worse?”
Choose the Right Response
How can I safely intervene? Be direct. Distract and redirect focus. Delegate. Delay by checking in with the person affected.
Choose To Act
Think: “If it was my friend or family member, would I want someone to act?”
Act on the plan you developed.
Understanding what makes up healthy relationships, with friends, partners, peers and adults, is important to preventing sexual violence from happening in the first place.
A healthy relationship is based on mutual respect, compromise and communication. It allows for partners to talk openly about their feelings and thoughts, supporting each other’s happiness. Partners listen to each other, respecting each other’s thoughts, feelings, decisions, privacy and boundaries.
